Do online petitions work? (Frack sand activists might say yes!) At least they are a relatively easy way to educate people who may not be paying attention. So, here are a few petitions for you to sign and forward:
Did you know that Republicans in Congress are harrassing US climate researchers? Join the Union of Concerned Scientists in defending scientists from bullying by climate change deniers in Congress.
This Sierra Club petition asks the US EPA to support and push a robust Clean Power Plan.
You might be interested in this article about climate change censorship in Wisconsin and then sign the petition to demand an end to nixing climate change talk among state employees.
Not a petition, but more important! Finding and supporting a good presidential candidate is crucial. Will the next president support more fossil fuel production or push for a switch to renewables? Use the isidewith.com tool to find your best match and then work for those candidates who are the best for the climate. The Iowa caucuses are less than a month away.
And, by the way, are you registered to vote? If not, you can do it now. Wisconsin residents, start here. Fill out the form, print it out, copy your proof of residency (see list at site), and mail or take it to your city or town clerk. Minnesota residents, start here. (By the way, Minnesota's presidential preference caucuses are on March 1!)
Also not a petition, but a useful tool if you have investments (like in a 401K) and would like to disinvest from fossil fuels. Enter the Decarbonizer.
This petition's over, but you can still write to your Senator and Congressperson to ask them to push for an investigation of fossil fuel companies' apparent decades-long climate change deception (at the same time as they received billions of dollars of taxpayer subsidies). - cathy
