Let's make some changes!

First, let's push for improved bicycle infrastructure so bike commuting is something MANY people will actually consider doing (think PROTECTED BIKE LANES, for example! We CAN do it here!)

The City of La Crosse is seeking input from property owners and residents on the 2016 Green Complete Street Projects. The City’s Green Complete Street ordinance and Green Complete Street design is really just a different way of approaching street design where all users are considered, not just vehicular traffic. Staff will be displaying the conceptual design considerations proposed for things such as sidewalks, bump-outs, bike and transit accommodations, porous pavement, and bio-retention devices that are proposed in conjunction with 2016 capital projects that include street reconstruction. Staff will be available to answer questions, to listen to feedback on the proposed considerations, and to hear and discuss ideas from the attendees.

Session #1: Black River Beach Neighborhood Center on Tuesday, January 5th at 6:30p.m.

Session #2: Southside Community Center on Tuesday, January 12th at 6:30p.m.

Anyone unable to attend may send comments and inquires to
Bernard Lenz, Assistant City Engineer. City Hall, 4th floor (608) 789-7364 Lenzb@cityoflacrosse.org

Second, the Coulee Region Sierra Club is seeking new members, new ideas, new energy. The Sierra Club is one of the oldest and most effective national environmental advocacy organizations and the state (John Muir) chapter is very active in a variety of important issues. If you are already a Coulee Region Sierra Club member, please attend the important January 26 meeting (7 pm at the Ho-Chunk Three Rivers House, 8th and Main) to brainstorm ideas and action items for the coming year. If you are a member but can't attend the meeting, please at least complete the survey.

If you aren't a Sierra Club member but believe in the club's Mission Statement:
  • To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth;
  • To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources;
  • To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.
then please JOIN NOW so you can attend the January 26 meeting and help guide the club's agenda for this coming important year.                                                          - cathy
